Glaciers move by extrusion flow. This involves two main processes; internal deformation and basal sliding.
Internal Deformation
Under the immense weight of overlying ice, individual ice crystals align into layers and slide over each other. (Much like the property of metal ions which leads to the characteristic of maleability).
Basal sliding
Meltwater (from pressure melting) lubricates the base of the glacier, which slides over the bedrock under the influence of gravity.
Alpine glaciers flow because they are in mountainous regions, from a high elevation to a low elevation. The reason that they flow in mountainous regions is because of the force of gravity.
Gravity.
The alpine glaciers are high in the mountains.
Alpine glaciers leave behind U-shaped valleys, deep, high-altitude lakes and cliffs. Continental glaciers flow outwards scraping the landscape clean, making fairly flat lands and lakes
Antarctica is a continental glacier. Alpine glaciers are a different type of glacier.

Valley Glaciers are a type of apline glaciers
They difference between them is where there flow. Continental glaciers are enormous ice sheets, and are found in Greenland and Antarctica. Alpine glaciers form in mountain valleys.
There are 2 main types of glaciers, Continental is one, they float away from central regions. The second is alpine or valley which are the glaciers that flow down the valley from the mountain.

Cirque glaciers.
Glaciers are ice sheets. There are 2 kinds of glaciers: alpine glaciers and continental glaciers. Alpine glaciers are formed when valleys above the snow line fill with ice and snow. Snow is compacted and gradually begins to flow downhill due to gravity. -Cham11

I only know that alpine glaciers can carve deep u-shaped valleys in the mountains.
