Tybalt is angry because Romeo and his friends (including Mercutio) crashed the Capulet party, and really angry because Lord Capulet wouldn't allow Tybalt to throw them out of the party.

Tybalt tries to get Romeo to swordfight with him, but Romeo (who is by now secretly married to Tybalt's cousin Juliet) refuses and tries to make peace with Tybalt. Mercutio is enraged that his cousin Romeo won't fight, and says that if Romeo won't fight Tybalt then he will.

Tybalt and Mercutio begin swordfighting. Romeo, still trying to achieve a peaceful solution, jumps between the two and tries to push Mercutio safely away from Tybalt. This makes it impossible for Mercutio to use his sword to defend himself. Tybalt, seeing Mercutio's chest exposed under Romeo's upraised arm, fatally stabs the defenseless Mercutio.

In this scene, it is Mercutio who leads Tybalt into the fight with his quick tongue and smart words. He calls Tybald the king of cats and offends Tybald through his sly words. Mercutio however, does not begin the physical fight. Tybalt does not want to begin a fight with the neutral family of which Mercutio is from, however the appearance of Romeo and Mercutio's eagerness to support Romeo starts the fight.

Mercutio does. Tybalt had no quarrel with Mercutio (he was after Romeo) but Mercutio challenged him and Tybalt, a quarrelsome person, was happy to oblige.

What mood is created when Mercutio says Ask for me tomorrow and you shall find me a grave man. I am peppered I warrant for this world. A plague o' both your houses?

Mercutio is struggling with the reality of his own death. His first reaction is to be funny--to make a pun. But it is not funny at all. It is intensely sad and pathetic. In fact, his attempt to make light of his fatal wound make us feel even sorrier for him than we otherwise would. In the end, Mercutio feels anger at his impending death, and he directs that anger at Romeo and at all of the feuding Veronese ("both your houses"). We see Romeo redirecting that anger from himself to Tybalt. So, from pathos, the mood shifts abruptly to anger. then Romeo wants to kill Tybalt.

How does Mercutio look like from Romeo and Juliet?

His name tells you. He is named after the god Mercury, the god of changes. That is why we have a word "mercurial" for something that changes all of the time. The metal Mercury is so named because it is a liquid and changes shape. Mercutio is shallow, witty, lively, fun, insulting and totally unable to take things seriously. He cannot even take it seriously when he is dying.

How does fate work against romeo and Juliet?

They have all kinds of bad luck. Up until Act 3 Scene 1 everything goes their way. Then in that scene Romeo has the misfortune to meet up with Tybalt, who has been wandering around looking for him. Romeo and Juliet had not publicised their marriage because until it was consummated it could be easily annulled. Once they had slept together, the parents were more likely to reconcile themselves to the marriage. Had Romeo not met up with Tybalt all would have gone according to plan. But meeting Tybalt was the first piece of bad luck. Tybalt's lucky (or unlucky) fatal blow to Mercutio was the second. It could easily have been a flesh wound. Without the dead bodies lying around, the Prince would not have been involved, and even if he was, it was Tybalt and Mercutio who would have paid the penalty for street-fighting. The next piece of bad luck was that Capulet suddenly changed his tune about Juliet's marriage, decided that it was a good idea, and that he could put his reputation on the line in promising that Juliet would agree to marry Paris. It was bad luck that Friar John should not get Friar Lawrence's message to Romeo. Even though the message was inaccurate as to the time of Juliet's awakening, at least Romeo would have known that her supposed death was a fake.

What are Romeos character traits in Romeo and Juliet?

Some of Romeos character traits are; he develops very little as a character, he is not in love with Rosaline but in love with the idea of being in love with Rosealine, he is a figure of fun to his friends, he is moody, withdrawn and inclined to go to extremes as he exaggerates his shallow feelings for Rosaline. This is shown at the speed in which he forgets about Rosaline as soon as he sees Juliet. He has little sense of practical realities and tends to act on the spur of the moment, which proves fatal to his cause. In his encounter with Tybalt Romeos starts by being reasonable and sensible, but when Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo loses self-control. When circumstances go against him he retorts with childish-rage.
