From water at solid state or ice change to liquid the process is called melting. From water as solid to gas the process is called sublimation. From water as liquid to gas the process is called evaporation. All these 3 processes involve change of state and absorb heat.

Which changes of state would involve water absorbing energy?

Energy is absorbed when matter changes from:Solid --> LiquidLiquid --> GasSolid-> GasThose are also known as (respectively):MeltingVaporization (or evaporation if you want to be specific with water)Sublimation

Why cant you change temperature and phase at the same time?

When an object is changing state form liquid to a gas the object is absorbing energy to allow its molecules to expand. it cant increase in temperature because it is using the energy that it is absorbing. Does energy need to be absorbed to convert a liquid to a gas?

Yeah obviously.... Any matter in this universe tries to be more disordered state. By absorbing energy, Liquid state, in which molecules move less freely tries to be move more freely by absorbing energy and changing into gaseous state..

Which state of matter involve the gain of energy?

plasma

What changes of state require energy?

Sublimation, melting, and vaporization are three changes of state which require energy.

How substances changes from one state to the other state?

through changes of energy

Is it true that gas absorbs energy as it changes into a liquid?

When a gas changes to a liquid, it goes through the process of Condensation. This is when the gas cools and loses energy. Then the particles are forced to change state, from a gas to a liquid.

What is the theory used to explain changes in state?

The answer is Kinetic Theory or Kinetic Moleculer Theory

What two changes of state does this process involve?

In order to know what two changes of state are involved in a process one needs to know what the process is.

What are three changes of state during which energy is absorbed?

The three changes of state during which energy is absorbed is: conduction, convection, & radiation.

Does changes in a state of matter involve a physical change?

A chaqnge of the state of matter is allways a physical change.

How can the temp of a substance remain the same if it is absorbing energy?

This happens during boiling and freezing the energy being absorbed is going into making the state change.
