Jesus did not choose the disciples because they were rich or pure or anything like that. He choose the 12 to follow him and learn about the wisdom and salvation of god.

The reason he didn't choose someone rich or holy, is because that would be like a doctor choosing 12 healthy patients and saying "now I will cure your nonexistent sickness" Pointless, right?

Instead he choose regular, everyday tax collectors and fishermen and said "let me heal you so you can learn to heal others."

Jesus came to help those who were sinners so that they may find comfort and peace in the kingdom of God.

You can follow him like the disciples did by helping the widowed and orphaned just like Jesus. The 'qualifications' are not that huge. You just have to love one another and be willing to change parts of your life so that God can work through you to help others.

In ACTS 4:13 Peter and John are described as being IGNORANT and UNLEARNED men.

but they were:

AVAILABLE - When Christ called them to follow him they did.

TEACHABLE - They made a lot of mistakes but in Acts 4:13 the Jewish council could see that the disciples had been with Jesus

FAITHFUL - We can see in the New Testament they were faithful to the work Jesus gave them to do
