A saltwater system uses sodium chloride and/or table salt in the water instead of dealing with the chlorine hassles. We bought one for our kids' pool that cost about $200 and added approximately 25lbs of salt/1,000gals of water. This concentration of salt would be less than 1/3 as much as in human tears. The best thing is that it requires very little additional maintenance of the pool.
