It will all depend on what you will want to do with the room, what kind of brown is in the walls, what style of furniture you have or plan to use in it.
A few ideas:
For a trendy and retro look go for a very light beige, almost white and apply the same color to the ceiling. And they play around with area rugs and accents in colors like lime green, orange, white, and light blue.
You can bring some earthy tones and textures, choosing a neutral sandy color for the carpet and ceiling and using neutral natural textures to the room, with a few splashes of color here and there.
You can also go for a sober, sort of Victorian look and line the floor with nice oriental area rugs, and in this case find a carpet color that will help you highlight the rugs. Consider crown molding and Victorian style wall embellishments (even some stenciling) Use turn of the century pieces as furniture and place nice pictures on the wall, in beautiful golden frames.
If the brown in the walls is on the reddish side, you could go for an oriental look too. Neutral light tones in the carpet, and oriental inspired decor.
Just a few ideas.
What I would not do... but again.... that is personal. I will not use dark carpet or ceiling.
Loads of colours go with gold. It depends what sort of look you want. A few suggestions would be:
White, green, purple ect
dark red, dark purple or anything dark
Red!!
Gold and lilac
Your opinion! We are all different with our own opinions :)
Black and gold are two very suitble colours to go with any occasion.
white yellow gray depends on a lot of factors--many colors go with navy blue Gold and Silver go best
Gold or yellow! Roses, reds, pinks also look great!
Green.
I would suggest a dark color it would really bring out the texture of the curtains. I disagree. The dark color of the curtains will blend right into the floor of a dark colored carpet. With that in mind, it will be up to you to decide what temperature and mood you want to set with the cutains. Are they formal or traditional? If so, consider gold shades. Sandy, muted gold looks fantastic with Aubergine. Do you want to create a more modern feel or a cooler temperature? Pewter, silver and medium gray work well with Aubergine. Finally, You'll want to consider what furnishings you already have or what you'll want to use to determine the direction of the carpet color.
The colour gold is a sort of shiny yellow colour.
gold, sliver, pink, blue, white, green, yellow really every single colour can go!
