Grasshoppers are normally a brown or yellowish brown colour, although a few species have some slight green shading in places.

They colouring is often mistaken as bright green, the colour of grass, but this is a fallacy, and grasshoppers despite their name do not take on the colour of grass. This green colouring is often exhibited by crickets, a species that different from the grasshopper.

many people believe that grasshoppers are bright green, but this is wrong, and (despite their name) grasshoppers are never the colour of grass. It is crickets that take on the colour of grass, a species usually mistaken with grasshopper's, but nevertheless a different specie's.
