The flag of Sweden (Swedish: Sveriges flagga) is blue with a yellow Scandinavian cross that extends to the edges of the flag. The design and colours of the Swedish flag are believed to have been inspired by the present Coat of arms of Sweden of 1442, which is blue divided quarterly by a cross pattée of gold, and modelled on the Danish flag. Blue and yellow have been used as Swedish colours at least since king Magnus Birgersson's royal coat of arms of 1275.

∙ 14y agoThe colors of the Swedish flag (blue and yellow) are from the middle age and there are a number of legends that are reported concerning the origin.
One legend is that of Erik the Holy who saw the colors in the sky (blue sky, clouds tinted yellow by the setting sun) when he landed in what is now Finland 1157 on the first Swedish crusade (there are however no first hand reports of this crusade).
The present day flag was not used until the 15 hundreds but the yellow and blue colors have been documented in heraldic use by prominent "Swedes" since the 12 hundreds (e.g. Magnus Ladulås 1275).
