Best Answer

The food passes through the pyloric sphincter.

However, there are processes that must happen before it does and, since there's already a thorough answer to this question on this site, I won't elaborate. See the answer that was given by Diberri.

I only improved this answer because it listed the wrong sphincter through which the food passes from the stomach into the duodenum part of the small intestine.

The stomach's main purpose is to store and begin protein digestion. The pyloric sphincter is a tough ring muscle that is the door way into the small intestine. Peristalsis (the muscular contraction of the smooth muscles) constantly moves the contents down to the lower ends of the alimentary canal. Along with this mechanical movement the as the acid chyme enters the duodenum (first 25 cm of the small intestine) a hormone called Secreting is released from the intestinal walls to signal the pancreas to release a bicarbonate solution which neutralizes the acid. This protects the small intestine from getting eaten up by the acid filled food.
