He is responsible for the security and safety of the ship, and will respond to all threats. He is in charge of the ship's crew and sometimes the accounting, if there is no one else for that job, and everything related to the handling of the ship. He is to keep accurate records and logs and is responsible for the ship's navigation, and managing all cargo and stores on board.
