I have the same problem (i.e. nosebleeds that last for 10-15 minutes and produce large, dark red clots). I saw an ENT at age 12 and he prescribed Allegra-D. If i follow the dosing schedule (1 pill twice a day) I have absolutely no nosebleeds. However, if I forget to take me medication, I can have a nosebleeds that will only end by blowing out all of the blood clot. To treat them, follow the normal remedy for nosebleeds first (sit down and tilt your head forward for about 5 minutes while pinching your cartilage) then attempt to blow out the clot. Make sure you use a paper towel or multiple tissues when blowing out the clot because they can be very large (my largest was as long as my middle finger) Causes can include a large blood vessel in close proximity to the inner nostril, a deviated septum, a clotting disorder, or hypertension. Another option that I'm currently exploring is nasal cautery, which can destroy the culprit blood vessel in the nose or at least reduce its size.

You could have a superficial blood vessel in the back of your nose that can be sensitive to every sneeze, itch, congestion, etc. It can always be there but not pose as a problem until now. Another reason is your body could be overheated. When having a nose bleed, it is best to run cold water over your wrist (one is good). Or if you're in your car, blast the A/C and hold your wrist up to the vent. This will cool your body down and your nose bleed should stop.

They also recommend using a wet cold paper towel and putting it over your nose and pinching the BRIDGE of your nose, not your actual nose and blocking open passageway through the nostrils. The wet cold paper towel helps you inhale the cold air to cool down the body. Pinching the bridge of your nose still allows the blood to pass through, but it will lessen with the wet towel.

If you have a superficial blood vessel, a Ear/Nose/Throat specialist can burn off that blood vessel. It's painless since they numb the area, but the smell is gross. It's just a burning smell but the thought of it being your SKIN is gross.

There are many causes of nosebleeds. Some of the most common are Allergies, colds, infections, trauma, nose picking, pregnancy, blood disorders, climate, blood thinners and medications. People experiencing repeated, severe nosebleeds several times a day should immediately be seen by a doctor; an ENT who specializes in problems with the nose and sinus would be the best bet.
