The long jump was first invented, according to history by Jason, the Argonaut in Greece during the the Ancient Greek Olympics BC. It was actually not a separate event, it was a part of the Pentathlon which consisted of 5 sporting events to make it one complete event.
Although there is no actual record of which year it was introduced only that it was perhaps after the 15th Olympics as the first 13 Olympics consisted of only a 200 yard foot race (running race) then in the 14th Olympics the 400 yard foot race was introduced for the first time.
Only free men were permitted to enter these Olympic games.
