There is no particular major needed to become any type of doctor in particular. You just need to graduate college with a 4 year degree, with the required science classes. I for instance received a PhD in Physics before I went to medical school. But many pre-med students choose to major in either Biology or chemistry.

The only particular requirement to become an orthopedic surgeon is to graduate a 4 year medical school, and then complete a residency in orthopedic surgery.

What you choose to take in high school really does not matter. Just do well enough to get into a good (yet inexpensive) college. On the road to becoming an ortho surgeon, you want to stay out of debt as much as possible, especially at the college level. Go into debt, if you must, at the medical school level.
