The Mound Builders culture began about 3,000 years ago and lasted about 2,500 years.
Very little is known about the native American groups today called Mound Builders - we do not know their languages, their names, their religious beliefs or much about their everyday lives. Future archaeological discoveries may help to fill some of the gaps in our current knowledge.
The Native Americans living in what is now the United States did not have a written history. The major events that we know of before the 1500s is the mound builders of around 1000 AD and the Iroquois Confederation of 1450.
The Neo Indians lived in what is now Ohio, from 1000 B.C.E. to 1650 C.E. They are also know as the Mound Builders and there were two primary groups: Adena and Hopewell. The Adena lived from 1000 B.C.E. to 800 C.E. and the Hopewell lived from 300 BC to 800 AD.
