What did Georgia O'Keeffe do before she was a painter?
After her post-high school art education at the Art Institute of Chicago in September 1905-June 1906 and the Art Students League in New York in 1907-1908, she when to Chicago and took a job as a free-lance illustrator for daily newspapers for two years. From 1911 to 1914 she taught art classes at Chatham Episcopal Institute in Chatham, VA and was as an art drawing supervisor in City Public School in Amarillo, TX for the school years of 1912 & 1913. During the summers she was teaching assistant at the University of Virginia and in 1916-1917 she taught art at Columbia Teachers' College, in Columbia, South Carolina. From 1918 on she was a full-time artist.
