Sudetenland was one of the most developed part of Czechoslovakia. It had the great economic value because of high level of industrial production..there were many factories of porcelain , textil , metal production..it had many natural sources..like mines. The great number of enterprises were in hands of Sudeten Germans. The bunkers and forts of Czech army were in very good condition and Czechs had modern arms ( Skoda factory )..but unfortunately they did not receive order to give resistance..The Wermacht assumed great geopolitical victory by invasion of Sudetenland , because the security of Czechoslovakia was in hands of German Reich..Also Hitler planned for a long time to get more so called lebensraum..The Czech people were forced to leave their homes in few days , and the whole country was open for Germans to build the new Aryan civilization.
The Sudetenland
Hitler requested the return of the Sudetenland, which was heavily German speaking, at the Munich Conference. The Czechs were against it not because they feared the loss of the territory - it was German speaking and not loyal to Czechoslovakia hence was a liability, but because it was mountainous and their fortifications were there. Once Germany controlled the Sudetenland it was a clear shot to Prague.

The Sudetenland
Hitler believed that there was a vast majority of Sudeten Germans in the Sudeten Land, and that by taking over it he was only complying with Wilson's idea of self-determination. He also thought that if in a later war he were to be attacked by the Russians that it would act as a first line of defence. Also by taking over Czechoslovakia he would be that one step closer to Poland and his policy of expanding East.
