Thailand is the name of the country that was formerly named Siam. Siam was the name of the country before June 24, 1939, and was again for a short time between September 8, 1945 and July 20, 1949.
The country's official name was Siam (Thai: สยาม RTGS: Sayam, pronounced [ sàˈjǎːm]) until June 23, 1939, when it was changed to Thailand
Siam was the original name of Thailand until there year June 23, 1939 when it was changed to Thailand. It was renamed Siam again from 1945-1949 after which it was again renamed Thailand.
Siam changed its name to Thailand because they want to modernise the country's name.
Siam is just the old name for Thailand. Don't know why, but for some reason they decided to change it. Still the same country though.
Thailand was formerly known as Siam. Interestingly enough, it was renamed Siam from 1945 to 1949 although I am not sure why. In 1949 it reverted back to Thailand.
