The first Egyptian writing was made up of rows of pictures called hieroglyphs. Each picture stood for; an object, an idea, or the sound of a word. Many of the hieroglyphs are quite complicated- they must have taken ages to draw!
The earliest writing was based on pictographs. Pictographs were used to communicate basic information about crops and taxes. Over time, the need for writing changed and the signs developed into a script we call cuneiform.
Mesopotamian writing is cuniform, which looks like a differant variety of symbols.
They wrote in clay tablets, and they did use feathers to give shape to the letters.
They used symbols, and others objects and material for their writing.
There is no such thing as a "mesopotamian alphabet". For information about Akkadian, see the link at the bottom:

they look like symbols
They did not. Egyptians, both ancient and modern, look like people. The ancient Egyptians did believe some of their gods looked like people with cat's heads... But of course there was no basis in fact for that.
hope this is what you want :)
The most commonly known are hieroglyphics, they look like pictures of animals and hands etc.. Look into the Rosetta Stone if you want to know the other kind of Egyptian language and writing symbols.

The Egyptians wrote in hieroglyphs. These look like little pictures or symbols. It took historians a long time to be able to read it.
Egyptians only used hieroglyphics when there writing needed to look good. Normal people used a much simpler writing system.
