Yes! Everything! I mean, I've given up everything. Sure, I haven't given up material possessions, like my iPod, my iHome, my laptop, things like that, but I've given everything else up. I've given Jesus control of my destiny, I've given Him control of my day-to-day life. I've given Him control of my heart, soul, mind, strength, and body. I've given everything to Him. and you know what? It's all 100% worth it. Jesus is more than worth it! I want to follow His dream for my future. I want to follow His Will for my life!!!

So yes, true Jesus followers give up everything. And, if Jesus came to me right now and said, "Put down all your material possessions, and follow me." I would jump up in an instant and do it. For all I truly need is Him. He is my everything. It sounds scary, and maybe even a little dumb to give up everything to someone we can't even see, but guess what, we CAN see Him! Not in human form, but look outside. Look at the beauty of nature. God is there. Look at the innocent child running around having the time of their life. God is there. Look at the sunset on the beach that you can't take your eyes off. God is there, He painted that!

So, Jesus followers give up everything, and give it to Him. Is it worth it? Absolutely more than worth it!

AnswerAdding to the above Answer, there is a contrast made between on the one hand a rich young ruler who wouldn't give up his wealth and possessions to be a disciple, and on the other hand the Disciples who gave up everything to follow Jesus:-

Luk 18:18-30 KJV And a certain ruler asked him, saying, "Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (19) And Jesus said unto him, "Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. (20) Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. " (21) And he said, "All these have I kept from my youth up." (22) Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, "Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. " (23) And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. (24) And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, "How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! (25) For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. " (26) And they that heard it said, "Who then can be saved? " (27) And he said, "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." (28) Then Peter said, "Lo, WE [my emphasis] have left all, and followed thee." (29) And he said unto them, "Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, (30) Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting."

Some disparage the disciples but, in contrast with the rich young man, they gave up everything they had to follow Jesus: homes, businesses, fishing boats, friends, family: you name it. Typically, it was Peter who, (to visually paraphrase the above), would have puffed his chest out and self-righteously stated with emphasis "WE have done all that ...what am I going to get out of it?".

Some of the disciples left their jobs to follow Jesus. Eventually almost all of them - and many others since - have lost their lives as martyrs for their beliefs.
