Well, way back in the 20th Century, before television and the now ubiquitous home computer, we did most of our calculations and arithmetic in our heads. For harder calculations, we used "slide rules". Slide rules are clever little contraptions that allow you to do many calculations, at times, even faster than on a modern calculator.
They have various logarithmic scales that one can "slide" next to another to determine the answer to an equation. Remember, the engineers that designed the rockets that sent Man to the moon used mostly slide rules.
For entertainment, we went outside a lot and played sports in the sunshine and fresh air. There was more sunshine back in the days of old.
