It seems that people often say that all music today is crap, but I suspect people have always been saying that. Crap music was made in the past, and crap music is made now; great music was made in the past and great music is made now. The thing is that most of the garbage from decades ago is forgotten, and the good stuff is more likely to remembered so people just assume that that was all that was good. For example, I doubt it if Flow Rider, Soldier Boy or Rebecca Black will be remembered 30 years from now, except possibly as novelty acts. There's a similar situation with movies and TV shows and most things like that; the stuff that's remembered is usually the better stuff, so people often get the impression that there was more good stuff made in the past than there is today per unit time.
