The bouncing bomb was a bomb that bounced on water. It was used to destroy the German dams in an attempt to flood the German munition and growth factories. They were usually dropped by Lancaster bombers - based in Lincolnshire

Apart from during the research stage ALL the bombs were carried by Lancasters, because they were too heavy for smaller aircraft.

The bomb devised by Barns-Wallis and English man was used to destroy dams used by the Nazis for powering industries which were creating weapons in the second world war. The bombs were dropped by the RAF on the reservoirs that held back by these dams. The bombs were developed to bounce across the water similar to skipping stone so that they collided with the dam wall and sunk to a specific depth. Here the bomb detonated and breaching the dam walls and causing millions of gallons of water to engulf the town beneath
