Common people ate oatmeal, bread and vegetable stews as they could not afford to eat meat. They also ate pottidge which is a vegetable soup and they drank ale which is a sort of beer.

Bread, water maybe cheese, potatoes or if they were lucky meat such as fox, rabbit or squirrel.
Poor people ate a lot of porridge, which could be made of such grains as oats, rye, or barley, or peas. They ate eggs for protein, as eggs were less expensive than meats. They ate cabbage, and other local greens. They used bones to produce stock for soups, and they flavored food with onions, garlic, mustard.

Medieval people ate a lot of bread, but very few people made their own because they could not afford ovens for baking. There were poor people who could not afford bread, but when they could, the bread they ate was usually made from rough grains like oats, barley, and rye, because wheat and wheat flour were very expensive.

their meals would consist of pottage, (a thin stew) black or brown bread, cheese, and occasionally meat if they were lucky. many peasants kept a small garden in their yards.

meals would be eaten at dawn when the peasants arose to work lunch would be cheese and bread eaten while they worked supper would be another bowl of pottage.

sugar and salt were very expensive as were all spices (peasants would never have eaten these) they may have used herbs from their garden to season food
