The Spartan iew was that of very self sufficient and the Diarchy of kings were often ill disposed towards foriegners it was the perioci the 2nd class of Spartan Society being the conquered Laconians and traded in Greece and the medditerrainean.

Spartan Law was so strict because of the many wars going on and there was overpopulation. So in all, it was to keep its crime, and population under control.

The spartan economy did not have coins, but they used iron bars to give value. The Spartans were not big on trade, so they conquered neighboring lands to get food and supplies. Helots-captuered slaves-did a lot of dirty work.
The valued fighting. When you reached the age 7, you were moved into a army barracks, where they stayed until they reached the age of 30. They would march, exercise, and fight usually, and they would do this no matter what weather wearing light tunics and no shoes.
