Depending on wether it was a tragedy or comedy they would wear different masks. The masks in tragedies were often large and with serious expressions. The masks for the comedies were more life-size with often grotesque emotions.

In Ancient Greece they used makeup for beauty, (like we do today) but they also used it to protect themselves from the sun because pale skin was considered beautiful skin, unlike today, when we tan on purpose because we believe the opposite, that tanned skin is beautiful skin.
