The Paleozoic, the Mesozoic and the Cenozoic are the 3 Eras of the Phanerozoic Eon.

The Paleozoic Era occurred between 542 and 251 million years ago. It lasted 291 million years. It was made up of 6 geological periods. The Cambrian Period(542 - 488Ma), the Ordovician(488 - 443Ma), the Silurian(433 - 416Ma), the Devonian(416 - 359Ma), the Carboniferous(359 - 299Ma) and the Permian(299 - 251Ma).

The Mesozoic Era occurred between 251 and 65.5 million years ago. It lasted 185.5 million years. It was made up of 3 geological periods. The Triassic Period (251 - 199.6Ma), the Jurassic(199.6 - 145.5Ma) and the Cretaceous(145.5Ma).

The Cenozoic Era occurred between 65.5 million years ago to now. It has lasted 65.5 million years to date. It has been made up of 3 geological periods to date. The Paleogene(65.5 - 23.03Ma), the Neogene(23.03 - 2.588Ma) and the current period the Quaternary Period (2.588Ma - Now)

The Precambrian is a longer span of geologic time leading up the the Paleozoic era. During the Cambrian period of the Paleozoic era, there was an explosion in the evolution of life forms. In the Precambrian, life was restricted to the sea. In the Paleozoic, life began on land.

They represent three distinct eras in the evolution of life on our planet. The Paleozoic Era is the earliest; it begins with the Cambrian period around 500 million years ago. During this period, favorable climate conditions facilitated an "explosion" of life worldwide. Many species came about during this period. It ends with a transition into the Mesozoic Era, where life on earth had to "re-invent" itself after an extended mass-extinction event, the cause of which is not completely certain, around 250 million years ago which resulted in the loss of the vast majority of both land and marine species. The Mesozoic Era is best known for featuring dinosaurs as the dominant life form globally. The Mesozoic Era came to a screeching halt around 65 million years ago, with the infamous "K-T extinction event," which is generally accepted to have been caused by an asteroid impact. Thus begins the Cenozoic Era, which is what we're in today.

What the meaning mesozoic?

"middle times" because the mesozoic was in between the paleozoic ("early times") and the Cenozoic ("current times")

How long ago did the 'paleozoic' era begin?

That would be 251 million years ago. The end of the Paleozoic era marks the beginning of the Mesozoic. The last period of the Paleozoic era was the Permian, and the first period of the Mesozoic era was the Triassic; hence the extinction event (the biggest extinction event in the earth's history), the Permian-Triassic extinction, which defines the border between the eras.

What era was dominated by reptiles?

Funny you asked. The reptiles dominated from the permian to cretaceous period. The answer is the mesozoic era. There are three geological eras: paleozoic, mesozoic and the Cenozoic. We are currently in the Holocene epoch of the quaternary period of the Cenozoic era.

Where is the Paleozoic strata?

The Paleozoic era occurred between 570 and 230 million years ago. The Paleozoic strata can be found below the Mesozoic strata and is characterized by the appearance of marine invertebrates and primitive reptiles.

The meaning of Mesozoic?

The meaning of Mesozoic is middle life. It was 66 to 252 million years ago. It was also known as age of the dominance in dinosaurs. The Mesozoic era is a geologic period of time that lies between the Cenzoic and Paleozoic. It is generally considered to be between 50 and 250 million years ago.

Was the mesozoic an mammal?

Mesozoic is a geological era, referring to the era lasting from around 250 million years ago up til about 65 million years ago. It is also sometimes called the Age of Reptiles because dinosaurs were the main animal at the time. This particular era includes the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. Mesozoic basically translates as middle life, and is the era between the Paleozoic and Cenozoic eras of the Phanerozoic Eon. The Mesozoic era is centred between two mass extinctions, the Permian-Triassic event and the Cretaceous-Poleogene event. The Permian-Triassic event was the largest mass extinction in our world's history.

Insects thrived during which period?

Insects thrived during the Permian period. The Permian period lasted from 299 to 251 million years ago and it was between the Paleozoic and the Mesozoic periods.

How old are the alps mountains?

The Alps are composed mostly of Mesozoic and Cenozoic rock strata which formed some time between 30 Million and 200 million years ago.

Was the mesozoic era during the precambrien era?

No. The Precambrian Era extended from 4.5 billion years ago to 542 million years ago. The Mesozoic Era lasted from 251 million years ago to 65 million years ago. The Paleozoic Era came in between the two.

What is the era after the Mesozoic?

After the Jurassic era came the mesozoic era.The Mesozoic Era is a period from about 250 million years ago to about 67 million years ago. It is called the Age of Dinosaursbecause most dinosaurs developed, and went extinct, during that time. The Chicxulub impact and other events ended the era when a majority of species on earth went extinct. It is one of three geologic eras of the Phanerozoic eon. The division of time into eras dates back to Giovanni Arduino, in the 18th century, although his original name for the era now called the "Mesozoic" was "Secondary" (making everything after, including the modern era, the "Tertiary"; the current term Quaternary was later proposed for the modern era, following the same numbering principle). Lying between the Paleozoic and the Cenozoic, "Mesozoic" means "middle life", deriving from the Greek prefixmeso-/μεσο- for "between" and zoon/ζωον meaning "animal" or "living being". It is often called the "Age of the Reptiles", after the dominant fauna of the era.The Mesozoic was a time of tectonic, climatic and evolutionaryactivity. The continents gradually shifted from a state of connectedness into their present configuration; the drifting provided for speciation and other important evolutionary developments. The climate was exceptionally warm throughout the period, also playing an important role in the evolution and diversification of new animal species. By the end of the era, the basis of modern life was in place.

When did the continent Gondwana exist?

The continent Gondwana existed primarily during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, between about 600 to 180 million years ago. It gradually broke apart due to the process of continental drift, leading to the formation of the current continents we have today.

Who proposed the meteor impact theory which caused the extinction of the dinosaurs?

In 1980, Luis and Walter Alvarez, a father and son team of geologists, decided to study the boundary between the Mesozoic and the Cenozoic. They soon found many signs of an asteroid impact, including iridium and impact spherules.
