It was Sir Leonard Wooley. Sir Leonard Woolley was the Archaelogist who led the excavation around 70 years after its initial rediscovery in 1953 by British Vice Consul John George Taylor circa 1954. And over 300 years before this, In 1625, Pietro Della Valle made numerous recording of his findings at the site. J.G.
