The catacomb consisted of tunnels (ambulacra) Graves (loculi) were dug through the walls of the tunnels and were usually laid out vertically and hosted several bodies. There were curved niches enclosed under a carved horizontal marble slab, (family burial chambers (cubicula) and chapels decorated with frescoes (cryptae).
