Raccoons are omnivorous which means that while they are in their natural environment, they will eat both plants such as nuts, fruits, seeds and other such plant material, and animals such as frogs, crayfish, nestling birds, bird eggs, amphibians, fish, insects and worms. When forced into suburban areas, raccoons become true opportunists and will feed on cat food, food that is easily accessible in garbage, dog food, etc.
Mostly peoples garbage why?
racoons eat anything it can fit in its moutht
Trash, plants and anything they find
Racoons are omnivorous; they can eat any kind of food that they can find, which in an urban enviromnent often means that they find discarded food in human garbage.

Anything, their omnivorous.

moose
Raccoons are an ommnerious animal ( it means they eat almost anything). They mostly eat crayfish, crabs, frogs, turtles, and nesting birds. They also eat acorns, birds' eggs, corn fruits (they sneak over to farms),seeds and small land animals like grasshopers or mice. Fresh water animals too. They'll find their food in rivers, streams, or your very own trash can if it is easy to open. If you have herd of this, raccoons are known to have been said that they "wash" the food they find. They really don't' wash their food they actually do that, because they it will be "easier" to eat, as what I've herd. They don't "wash" their hands, either if you've herd, they only to that when the animal it catches might have a shell. People learened that they do that so opening a shell of an animal so it would not be as hard.

Raccoons are mammals just like horses, whales, giraffes and you, and me. What makes mammals special is that they have the ability to feed their young milk right after they are born, so they have can grow and survive. Baby raccoons, or kits, nurse from their mother for about 3 months after birth, before they are weaned and can eat solid food.

Racoons usually live near water, and eat mostly small crabs, clams, other seafood; however, many racoons have learned to live inland, in human communities, and raid garbage cans, eat petfood, other meats. I believe they are carnivores, distantly related to cats, so what a cat would eat, a raccoon probably would too.
It eats mostly plants, small mammals, and berries. They also eat eggs, birds, frogs, crayfish, fiddler crabs, fish, and even some snakes. The raccoon will eat almost anything. The one thing that the raccoon doesn't eat is the tomato. The reason why is that tomatoes have a high acidity content. Raccoons cannot handle it so they avoid it.

Raccoons will eat anything. They used to routinely steal the cat kibble that I left for my 'outside ' cats , and once ate everything on a fruit platter that my wife had put out while preparing a barbecue.

Raccoons are omnivores and feed on a variety of animal and plant material. They consume large amounts of invertebrates such as insects, crayfish, worms and grubs. They also eat small mammals, such as mice, baby rabbits, snakes and lizards. They love fruits, vegetables and nuts and are particularly fond of acorns or sweet corn. Nestling birds, bird eggs and reptile eggs are also eaten. In more urban areas they feast on garbage left by humans or pet food left outside.
