Singholes generaly do not relate to plate tectonics. In most cases sinkholes result from the removal of underground material, which eventually cause the ground above to collapse into the space left behind. This is most often a result of weathering.

The ocean floor bedrock (basalt) is created by plate tectonics at divergent plate boundaries known as mid-ocean ridges. As this created ocean floor gradually becomes older, colder, and more dense, eventually it is consumed by subduction at convergent plate margins, also a part of plate tectonics. From start to finish, this process takes as long as 200 million years to complete, and results in the movement of the continental and oceanic crust which "floats" on the asthenosphere.

According to Plato, Atlantis sunk beneath the ocean. If this is true, plate tectonics might have created a volcano or earthquake which sank Atlantis.
