Here i am talking about Editor in chief. He/She is the one responsible for all aspects of the news operation, including the content of the paper, hiring, budgets, etc. The editor's involvement with the day-to-day running of the newsroom varies with the size of the paper. On small papers, the editor is very involved; on big papers, maybe less so.

Editor in chief assists by a team of editors. A newspaper prints under a typical hierarchy, which responsible for various aspects of the operation. In this hierarchy first come editor in chief then Managing editor -> Assistant managing editors, Assignment editors and Copy editors.

Assignment editors handle work related to city, state, national and foreign editors (Sports OP-ED, Features, Arts, Photos, Business etc.)

Assistant managing editors works specific area of a newspaper such as sports page, city or metro, business related pages etc.
