Opinions about Hamlet are generally favourable; many critics regard it as the greatest play of all time. Certainly critics have had more to say about Hamlet than about any other play. Even to try to list all of the critical works about it here would take up too much space.

Most critics like it. It has been around for a long time and there have been lots of critics over the years. George Bernard Shaw claimed not to like Shakespeare's plays but his judgement was based on three factors: 1. Shakespeare wasn't Ibsen; 2. Shaw was disgusted with 19th century Bardolatry (not unreasonably); 3. Shaw was both iconoclastic and incredibly vain.
