Student credit cards are a great way for young adults to build up a credit history. Some of the better cards for students are: Discover It Student, Capital One Journey Student Rewards, Citi Forward and Citi Dividend.

If you are getting a Federal Student Loan credit is not an issues. I just got a Federal Student loan and my credit is BAD!!! The thing is, is that it's a Federal Loan so you will always owe that money, even if you claim chapter 7 or 13. I was worried about that too, but I got one just fine.

Your VA disability to my knowledge is untouchable to all creditors, to include child support, and student loans. Your student loans will affect your credit report negatively until it is in good standing. It will never go away or default. You can not claim it on a bankruptcy either.
