Suppose the two fractions are a/b and c/d ad that b, d > 0.

Then cross multiplication gives ad and bc.

If ad > bc then a/b > c/d,

If ad = bc then a/b = c/d, and

If ad < bc then a/b < c/d

Explain how comparing fractions with like denominators differs from comparing fractions with unlike denominators?

Because when you compare fractions with the same denominators, you do not have to find the least common denominator (LCM or LCD).

What is an common multiple of the denominators for two or more fractions?

Multiplying the denominators together of two or more unlike fractions will get you a common multiple.

Fractions with different denominators are called?

unlike fractions

What are Fractions that have different denominators?

unlike fractions

How do you subtract fractions without alike denominators?

Convert unlike fractions to equivalent fractions with common denominators by finding the LCM of the denominators.

Are the steps for like and unlike denominators the same or different?

It depends what you are doing with the fractions. If you are multiplying or dividing fraction, the denominators do not need to be the same and the calculation can be carried out immediately. If you are adding or subtracting fractions, the denominators must be the same; if you have different denominators, the fractions must first be changed into equivalent fractions with the same denominator. When the denominators are the same (or have been made the same as equivalent fractions from being different) the calculation can be carried out.

What the difference between like and unlike fraction?

fractions having same denominators are like fractions & others are unlike fractions

What way is subracting fractions with unlike denominators like adding fractions with unlike denominators?

If the denominators are not the same, then you have to use equivalent fractions which do have a common denominator . To do this, you need to find the least common multiple (LCM) of the two denominators.

What is the word for fractions with different denominators?

Unlike. Unlike. Unlike. Unlike.

What is the rule for multiplying fractions with like denamonators?

Multiply all numerators to get numerator of the product. Multiply all denominators to get denominator of the product. This is true whether the factors have like or unlike denominators.

How do you add and subtract unlike denominators?

you make them have like denominators by multiplying so many times that they have the same denominators or you can make them have like denominators by multiplying the two

How is adding like fractions and adding unlike fractions the same?

If the denominators are not the same, then you have to use equivalent fractions which do have a common denominator . To do this, you need to find the least common multiple (LCM) of the two denominators. To add fractions with unlike denominators, rename the fractions with a common denominator. Then add and simplify.
