After your wolf and his or her mate has had pups, you'll need to train, defend and grow your puppies while keeping them fed.
Training your pups involves keeping them within the vicinity of your den. Pick up a wandering puppy if he/she gets too far from your den and drop them nearby. This will increase the blue bar shown on the heads-up display. You can also howl to gain affinity. Once this bar is filled, you will progress to the next mission.

When you're away from your den your mate will take your place with watching the pups. When you're on the final quest (journey to the rendezvous site) you can abandon your pups at any time.
