If you are being followed by a tailgater you should?

If in a safe/public area, I would pull over to the side of the road and allow the car to pass. They are apparently in a hurry. If not, I would change lanes to see if the car would continue to pass. If the tailgater continues to follow you, I would turn in a public area like a 7-11 or gas station or police station if available. Make sure it is a public place wtih people in the area.

It is incumbent on you to drive in as safe a manner as possible, regardless of what other people are doing. As such, if you're being tailgated, your job is to make the situation a safe one. This usually involves pulling over and letting them pass, slowing down, or both. If you feel they're being especially unsafe you can call the local traffic authority or 911.

Note that driving slower than the speed limit under safe conditions in any lane other than the rightmost lane may be an offense too.
