It depends on what kind of dragon egg you're looking for really, and no, they cannot just be found simply everywhere. Its sort of like in Eragon by Christopher Paolini...You kinda have to be chosen, if that makes sense.

Dragons are just creatures which are made up by people smart enough to combine the body of a snake, the feathers and the talons of an eagle, and the breath of......well, fire. The point is, if they really exist, as far as I know, no one knows where. But i probably agree with the earlier answer-if such magical creatures exist, you have to be CHOSEN. You can`t expect a majestic and powerful creature to just be found and cracked open.
You can usually find lizard eggs in moist areas. I am not an expert, but I do have many lizards near my home, and, usually I find eggs in the dirt..
Unless you want baby lizards running around where you are at, I would just take it somewhere else. Like an open field or park.
