What do you mean by Don't cry herrings till they are in the net?

This proverb has a similar meaning to "don't count your chickens before they've hatched" as well as "never fry a fish till it's caught." The idea behind these proverbs and others like them is that you shouldn't assume that you'll get what you want until you have it.
