"Garbage in - garbage out" (shortened to GIGO) is a traditional computing term. It points out that if you feed unreliable data (garbage) into the computer, you are going to get unreliable answers out of the computer (more garbage).
Unfortunately, people have an inflated trust in any data that has been run through a computer, garbage or not! The same term was used sarcastically and GIGO (Garbage In - Gospel Out)_ was common to identify this unwarranted trust
