One such use would be eyeglasses. If the eye is too long and the sharpest point of the light tries to focus in front of the retina, and the person cannot see well in the distance, a concave lense can be used to move that point onto the retina and improve vision. If the eye is too short and the person has trouble seeing up close, and the light tries to focus behind the retina, a convex lens will cause the light to converge more and thus move the point onto the retina.
