You work this out using BIDMAS; this tells you the order you need to calculate things in a sum. It stands for

  • Brackets
  • Indices
  • Division
  • Multiplication
  • Addition
  • Subtraction

though addition and subtraction are actually on the same level, as are division and multiplication. While using this as the order in which you work things out, you work from left to right.

If we look at you sum, 15 - 8 X 12,

We see that, as multiplication is before subtraction in BIDMAS, we must first do the multiplication sum. This gives us 15 - 96

Now we minus 96 from 15 which leaves us with -81. This is your answer.

What is the slope of a line whose equation is 12 equals 4y-8x?

4y-8x = 12 4y = 8x+12 y = 2x+3 So the slope is 2 and the y intercept is 3

How do you convert 12 ft by 15 ft to square yards?

12 ft is equal to 4 yds and 15 ft is equal to 5yds therefore the answer is 20 sq yds

What is the volume of a cuboid when its height is in the ratio of 15 to 8 to its width and has a length of 22 cm with a surface area of 2506 square cm showing work?

Suppose the height is 15x cm. Then the width is 8x cm. Then the surface area is 2*(15x*8x + 8x*22 + 22*15x) cm2 Therefore 2*(15x*8x + 8x*22 + 22*15x) = 2506 or 15x*8x + 8x*22 + 22*15x = 1253 120x2 + 506x - 1253 = 0 so that x = -529/30 or 13/4 But x cannot be negative so x = 1.75. Therefore, volume = (15*1.75)*(8*1.75)*22 = 8085 cm3

What is the area for 120 inches by 15 feet?

There are 12 inches in one foot. Therefore, 120 inches si equal to 120/12 = 10 feet. 10 feet x 15 feet = 150 square feet (150 ft2)

Is A triangle with sides of lengths 12 15 and 20 a right triangle?

No. Pythagoras' theorem states that when the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides then it is a right-angled triangle. The hypotenuse is the longest side (opposite the supposed right angle). In this case the hypotenuse is 20. The square of 20 is 400. The other two sides are 12 and 15. The square of 12 is 144 and the square of 15 is 225. The sum is therefore 225 + 144 = 369, which is not equal to 400, therefore the triangle cannot be a right-angled triangle.
