I have been a Wiccan for many years and I will give an honest answer to this: I... have... never... heard of such a thing. It is probably a Christian creation to link "666" (the Devil's number) and 444 together in some way. Take it from me, I have been on Wiccan websites, read Wiccan books, learned different ideas from other Wiccans and have studied the history of Wicca, Paganism and Witchcraft- but never heard of 444.

Who founded wicca?

Traditional Wicca was founded by Gerald Gardner, a British civil servant, who wrote 2 books on the religion in the 1950's. The best known is the first book about Wicca, being Witchcraft Today, published in 1954. It contains references to Celtic deities, symbols, seasonal days of celebration, etc. Added to this were components of ceremonial magic and practices of the Masonic Order. A more recent form is eclectic Wicca which involves a combination of Wiccan beliefs and practices, combined with other Pagan and non-Pagan elements. The various traditions of Wicca are part of the Pagan or Neopagan group of earth-based religions.
