I don't know what it means but I have a diamond pendant stamped 18k and A74 plus a makers mark. It was an estate piece so I quickly had it appraised.
I had not noticed the stamp at that time, my only interest was if diamond clarity and value were stated honestly by seller. I'm happy to say it was far more valuable than I expected. It is my opinion that whatever the stamp means, it's in no way referring to metal being gold plated or filled.
