The best we can do is to put the general description of a hobbit from the book:

They are inclined to be fat in the stomach; they dress in bright colours (chiefly green and yellow); wear no shoes, because their feet grow natural leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads (which is curly); have long clever brown fingers, good-natured faces, and laugh deep fruity laughs (especially after dinner, which they have twice a day when they can get it).

This is the description of Gandalf from The Hobbit: "...an old man with a staff. He had a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, a silver scarf over which his long white beard hung down below his waist, and immense black boots"

The actual description in The Hobbit is scanty at best: "In a great hall with pillars hewn out of the living stone sat the Elvenking on a chair of carven wood. On his head was a crown of berries and red leaves, for the autumn was come again. In the spring he wore a crown of woodland flowers. In his hand he held a carven staff of oak." In artistic renditions, he is usually portrayed as blond. In the related links are a selection of Thranduil representations by various fan artists.

Yes, they are the same person. Balin took his treasure and intended to re-establish Moria as the capital and home of the dwarves.

Who are the characters in the story The Hobbit?

The main character is named Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit from The Shire, who is also in The Lord of the Rings books. There are the dwarves that go with him on his adventure. The leader is Gandalf the Wizard, but he later leaves the group and leaves Thorin, the most important dwarf, in charge. Then there is Balin, who is also mentioned in The Lord of the Rings, and is said to like Bilbo the most. Beorn, a "skin changer," who can take shape of a bear, also plays an important part in helping Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarves.

What is the preface to Lord of the Rings?

The Hobbit is considered the prequel and occurs about 60 years in time before the Lord of the Rings. It is about how the One Ring came back to knowledge in Middle-earth after being hidden for so many years. The Silmarillion contains portions of the events from the beginning of Middle-earth right up to the destruction of Beleriand and the destruction of Numenor. It is far more like a history book than a story. The Hobbit. It tells of the life and adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Frodo's uncle. A movie is being made called "The Hobbit" in 2012. Peter Jackson comes back to direct another masterpiece. This may be slightly pedantic, but just to be precise:Technically the book The Lord of the Rings doesn't have a prequel. A prequel is written after a publication in question but describes the events that happened before the events in said publication. The Hobbit (book) was written before The Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings is the sequel to The Hobbit, but The Hobbit is not the prequel to The Lord of the Rings. However, the movie The Hobbit is the prequel to The Lord of the Rings movie. The Hobbit

More like fantasy fiction.I for one have no idea why The Lord of the Rings is sometimes categorized as Sci-Fi. It is Fantasy, and more specifically, Epic Fantasy.

Do you like The Hobbit why or why not?

The Hobbit is my favorite book. It is a fantasy and it is rather childish, but it lays the foundation for The Lord of the Rings. I've got a dozen or so copies in four different languages.

Can you be a wizard in Lord of the Rings online?

Wizards normally collect and learn about history and speak commands as magic. So lore masters are wizards, but given a more creative name. While this is true, lore masters are more like Beorn in 'The Hobbit' as they are friends of animals and extremely powerful as far as role-playing goes, Gandalf is a wizard, but in Lord of the Rings wizards are an extremely rare type of being.

In Lord Of The Rings 1 what does Gandalf's sign like a Y mean in the letter?

The inverted "Y"- like letter is a dwarvish rune (in Cirth -- dwarvish rune system), equivalent to the letter "G" in English. It's meant as Gandalf's signature.

Did Gandalf know the Lord of the Eagles before he was saved like he had helped them before or was it just by luck that they came?

Gandalf the Grey addresses Gwaihir Windlord as an old friend even in The Hobbit-- we can assume a prior association. Also he saved him from a poisoned wound before, so he was acquainted with him.

What are elves like politically in the hobbit?

In The Hobbit they are portrayed as rather silly, singing people. Elrond comes across as very learned and knowledgeable. Their serious side really doesn't come out until the Lord of the Rings.
