What does Candace mean in the Bible?
The meaning is not given in the verse in which the name Candace appears: Acts 8:27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
Candace is not of Hebrew origin so it has no translation in Hebrew. It can be spelled phonetically as קנדס The name Candace comes from the hereditary title of the queens of Ethiopia, as mentioned in Acts in the New Testament. It is apparently derived from Cushitic kdke meaning "queen mother". In some versions of the Bible it is spelled Kandake, reflecting the Greek spelling Κανδακη.
