Jade is also commonly known as soft jade, or traditional jade. Since the Chinese didn't have jadite until the Qing dynasty, (1271-1368) so they only knew of hard jade and soft jade.
Also, in the Chinese culture, they have a saying about Jade that goes as follows. "Gold has a value, but jade is invaluable." Meaning that Jade in the chinese culture is, well, invaluable.
