DRL is your daytime running lamps, meaning that your headlights are on for safety during daytime driving. HID is just the type of bulb, very bright, the ones you dont want to meet at night.
DRL - Daytime Running Lights
Your headlights are your DRLs
I have a 2000 Cavalier that did the same thing with the DRL, and only one of the lights worked when I put on the headlights manually. Ended up being a burnt-out bulb that I had to replace. No wiring necessary.
You contradict yourself. If your headlights are staying on during the day, then your DRL are working. What is your problem?
If you are referring to the shift position indicator located next to the shift lever - YES, it is supposed to be illuminated when the headlights (not the DRL's) are activated.
You probably need a new DRL module and/or DRL relay. In some instances the module is fixible.
When i was trying to disable my DRL's (Daytime Running Lights) i pulled the fuse for them and my headlights and instrument lights were flashing intermittently. Check the fuse panel in the glove box and look for the DRL fuse. Check if its blown. Hope this helps!!!
"DRL" stands for "daytime running lights".....in newer model vehicles, the DRL will turn on automatically when the car is started, thus eliminating the need to turn on the headlights for visibility, although the law states that headlights must still be turned on between ½hour before sunset and ½hour after sunrise.
Shift into Neutral or Park to turn off the DRL. Alternately, only drive with the headlights turned on. With headlights on, the DRL turn off. There is a dark blue wire you could cut at the BCM if you want to, but it usually isn't a good idea unless you know what you're doing.
I've seen forums that state that you remove the 'DRL' fuse located in the passenger fuse compartment, but there are no fuses labeled 'DRL'. I am well aware that the DRL/ Automatic headlights are a "feature", but it's irritating to neighbors when I start my car at night, and my headlights automatically turn on and shine into their windows. I know that I can turn on the parking lights to shut off the headlights, or push the parking brake in to have it start without the lights automatically coming on, but it would be simpler to just turn the lights on when i want them to turn on. The DRL's are hideous. I have silverstar 3157 bulbs and the car looks much nicer in front without those 2 big orange lights shining.
You didn't mention if you checked/tested the low beam headlamps or not.
