that matter can be turned into energy and vice versa
In the theory of relativity proposed by Albert Einstein, the letter E stands for energy, the letter m stands for mass, and the letter c stands for the speed of light in a vacuum. The famous equation E=mc^2 relates energy and mass, showing that mass can be converted into energy and vice versa.
Lots of scientists contributed much to the development of physics; I would not find it appropriate to single out one of them. Any text on the history of science - or of physics - will tell you about some of the individuals that contributed.
Some theories about matter include the atomic theory, which states that all matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms; the particle theory, which explains the behavior of matter in terms of the movement and interactions of particles; and the quantum theory, which describes the behavior of matter and energy at the smallest scales.
Mass tells spacetime how to curve through its gravitational pull. According to Einstein's theory of general relativity, mass causes spacetime to bend or curve around it, creating the force of gravity. The more mass an object has, the stronger its gravitational pull and the greater the curvature of spacetime around it.
If I tell someone that an object has energy, I am describing its ability to do work or cause a change. This energy could be in the form of kinetic energy (energy of motion) or potential energy (stored energy).
You tell me.

You can tell something has energy when that object has mass based on Einstien's theory based on relativety E=MC²
thermal energy is energy caused by friction friction is when two or more objects touch kinetic energy is when somthing is falling after you realesed potential energy that's all i can tell ya

Answer Magic Bullet Theory.
you can tell if an electronic is an energy saver by looking for the energy star.
You can tell if has thermal energy by its temperature, and you can tell if it has kinetic energy because it is moving. But you can't easily tell what materials will release chemical energy or nuclear energy, without doing scientific tests on them.
Nothing, it's a theory, like evolution!
Because in an isolated local reference frame, there is no measurement that an observer can make that will tell any difference between a force caused by gravity and a force caused by acceleration (e.g. a rocket) acting on the inertial mass within the reference frame.
