Explanations must be Consistent.
The explanation for one set of phenomena cannot contradict the explanation for other sets of phenomena.
If explanations are inconsistent, they must be rectified or abandoned.
Explanations must be Testable.
Explanations must be examined in
laboratories, in nature, in the field or through the study of past events and
must be capable of shown to be incorrect. If they are incorrect they must
be changed or abandoned.
Preferred Explanations should be Elegant (Simple).
Explanations that require the invention of the fewest "missing pieces" have the greatest reliability. Explanations cannot include pieces that are either inconsistent
with what is already known or that are untestable.
A "scientific" explanation is an explanation which is consistent with the view of reality held by scientists. Sometimes this involves the testability of that view by experiment, called the scientific method, and sometimes not. Theoretical physics theories, although views of reality held by scientists, are not actually demonstrable by the scientific method.
It means you have to use Scientific words in the explanation, so you can get higher marks. :) (if that's what you mean?).

An explantion explaining something
A design or an explanation that has to do with the collection of variables, the method/procedure and all the introductory info.
The term "result" can have several meanings in science, but the most universal is probably "the observed outcome of an experiment" (as distinguished from any explanation given to this observation).
