There are actually 6 gyros on HST's Fine Guidance Sensor (3 primary, 3 backup). The FGS is extremely critical to HST's operations. The gyros allow for precise positioning, locking the instruments on target during observations (2 for locking, 1 for instrument positioning). It is the FGS that allows HST to accurately measure interstellar objects over vast distances. Without the FGS gyros, HST is essentially useless. The FGS is arguably the most important piece of equipment on HST. In fact, it was the failure of several gyros that caused HST Servicing Mission 3 to be split into 2 separate missions (3A & 3B), so the astronauts could replace the FGS gyros with new ones. Given that extra spacewalk, there wasn't enough time to do all of the work previously scheduled, so some scheduled operations were moved to 3B. SM-3A was the John Glenn flight.
Do you REALLY think joe Jonas would spend his time on habbo hotel.. NO!!! fgs noobs these days.
